The Lion and the Unicorn

The Lion and the Unicorn
This magnificent piece of gold work, is part of my collection of things I have acquired or purchased.  I am not entirely sure where I acquired this piece, but it has been cut from something else and quite close to the embroidery itself, so at some point I will mount it onto another background fabric.
The piece is approximately 4 inches or 10cm square.

  1. I'm sure it has an interesting story!

  2. I deduce (Prince of Wales feathers) it's something to do with the Prince of Wales, but possibly not the present one, because it's not laid out in quite the same way. Is it old enough to be Edward VIII's when he was Prince of Wales? or even a predecessor?

  3. I was going to ask that too, is it the Prince of Wales' coat of arms? I remember the 'ich dien' part from something or other I read on the subject.

Don't pieces like that inspire you with what's possible with needle and threads? Amazing!
