 students work - part 1

 students work - part 2

This is a workshop I have just taught in the Scottish Borders in Jedburgh, working on a linear whitework sampler, creating a lot of hand stitch ideas on different natural fabric surfaces, including pulled work, drawn thread work, shadow work, eyelets and surface embroidery.

The idea for me is to continue the sampler and work more ideas which may include machine embroidery, mixed media, and more traditional and contemporary hand stitching.

I will of course do more postings on my blog as I continue to experiment and explore.

Left or right . . .

Left or right?  I decided to work the design on the right, although if it was worked on a garment, both left and right would be worked.

Ink jet printed onto fabric - the design has so far been worked with
DMC Diamant thread, and stranded cotton, worked onto a cotton furnishing fabric.

Stitches used include long and short shading, and fishbone - so far!

Dyed patching and piecing

here it is - dyed!

Sponge dyed with procion dyes on the Ruth Issett workshop - I used linen, cotton, silk, viscose and rayon fabrics and yarns.  I wanted a flood effect of colour merging through, and I may in the future embellish it further.  Still deciding!
