I have now started embroidering my printed calico of a design from the Lindisfarne Gospels. My aim is to make it look as authentic as possible, using traditional stitch techniques and adding my own personal ideas.
Like Jan says, I'm looking forward to seeing it. I wonder how you couched the gold into such even and perfect loops. I'm impressed as it's usually such an unruly thread.
The Lindisfarne Gospels are coming to Durham from 1st July - 30th september this year, and being from Durham, and living and working here too, I am celebrating this as it is part of my heritage. Plus they are a fascinating subject for embroidery, and the North East Region of the Embroiderers Guild will have an exhibition in Durham Cathedral which I hope to be part of.
Looking great Tracy, look forward to seeing it finished.

ReplyDeleteHeather - I did the couching by eye and controlled couching - it just takes a little practise
DeleteWell, I'm still impressed. You are very precise.
DeleteWhy the L F Gospels for your embroidery project? It all sounds superly interesting.
